Home Rewiring

Complete electrical rewiring for older homes, safety upgrades, and code compliance. Licensed electricians replace outdated wiring systems to protect your family and property.

When Your Home Needs Rewiring

If your house was built before 1980, chances are the wiring wasn't designed for today's electrical demands. Aluminum wiring, knob-and-tube systems, ungrounded circuits, and undersized panels create real fire hazards. Brighton Electric replaces outdated wiring with modern, code-compliant systems that handle your actual load safely.

We rewire homes during renovations, after additions, and when inspection reports flag safety issues. Every job starts with a thorough assessment of your existing system, load calculations, and a clear scope of work.

Our Rewiring Process

A full rewire means pulling new copper conductors through walls, installing grounded outlets, upgrading your panel if needed, and bringing everything up to current NJ electrical code. We coordinate with your schedule, work room by room when possible, and keep disruption manageable.

What we replace:

  • Knob-and-tube wiring
  • Aluminum branch circuits
  • Cloth-insulated wiring
  • Two-prong ungrounded systems
  • Undersized conductors

What you get:

  • Grounded 120V and 240V circuits
  • AFCI and GFCI protection where required
  • Properly sized breakers and wire gauges
  • Labeled panel with circuit directory
  • Permit, inspection, and certificate of approval

Safety and Code Compliance

Every rewire includes permit application and municipal inspection. We don't close walls until the inspector signs off. You'll receive documentation for your records and future buyers.

We follow NEC standards and local amendments. That means arc-fault protection in bedrooms and living areas, GFCI outlets in kitchens and baths, tamper-resistant receptacles, and proper grounding throughout.

Planning Your Project

Rewiring is invasive. We'll discuss access strategies—whether that means opening ceilings, fishing walls, or coordinating with drywall contractors. If you're already renovating, that's the ideal time. If not, we minimize damage and can recommend finish trades.

Timeline depends on square footage and complexity. A typical single-family home takes three to seven days of electrical work, plus inspection scheduling. We'll walk the property with you, answer questions, and provide a written estimate before any work begins.

How it works

01

Inspection and Assessment

We evaluate your existing wiring, panel capacity, and load requirements, then provide a detailed scope and estimate.

02

Permit and Planning

We pull the electrical permit and coordinate the work schedule with you, mapping out access points and minimizing disruption.

03

Installation

Our licensed electricians remove old wiring, install new copper conductors, upgrade the panel if needed, and wire all outlets, switches, and fixtures to code.

04

Inspection and Approval

The local inspector reviews all work. Once approved, we provide you with the certificate and a labeled panel directory.

Common questions

How do I know if my home needs rewiring?+

Frequent breaker trips, flickering lights, two-prong outlets throughout, visible knob-and-tube or aluminum wiring, burning smells, or a home built before 1980 are all signs. We offer inspections to assess your system and recommend next steps.

Can you rewire without tearing up all my walls?+

In many cases, yes. We fish wires through existing walls and access from the attic or basement when possible. Some openings are unavoidable, especially for outlet and switch boxes, but we minimize damage and coordinate with your contractors for repairs.

Do I need to move out during a rewire?+

Not usually. We can keep portions of the house energized and work room by room. There will be times when power is off to sections of the home, but we schedule that with you. Most families stay in place throughout the project.
