Electrical Troubleshooting & Diagnostics

Professional electrical troubleshooting to identify and resolve flickering lights, tripped breakers, dead outlets, and other electrical issues in your home or business.

Fast, Accurate Electrical Problem Solving

When something's wrong with your electrical system, guessing costs time and money. Brighton Electric uses systematic diagnostic methods and professional test equipment to pinpoint the root cause—whether it's a loose connection, overloaded circuit, failing component, or code violation.

We troubleshoot all residential and commercial electrical issues:

  • Flickering or dimming lights
  • Outlets that don't work or spark
  • Breakers that trip repeatedly
  • Burning smells or warm outlets
  • Partial power loss in rooms or zones
  • GFCI or AFCI nuisance tripping
  • Voltage fluctuations
  • Unexplained increases in electric bills

Our Diagnostic Process

Every troubleshooting call starts with a thorough assessment. We listen to what you've observed, inspect the affected areas, and use calibrated meters to measure voltage, current, and continuity. We trace circuits back to the panel, check for loose terminations, test devices under load, and verify grounding.

Once we've identified the problem, we explain it in plain terms and provide a clear repair estimate before proceeding. No surprises, no upselling—just the fix you need to restore safe, reliable power.

Why Electrical Problems Get Worse

Intermittent issues rarely fix themselves. A breaker that trips occasionally today can fail completely tomorrow. A warm outlet is a fire hazard. Flickering lights often signal a loose neutral—a dangerous condition that can damage electronics and appliances.

We've seen too many service calls that started as minor annoyances and turned into emergency repairs. Early diagnosis saves money and eliminates risk.

Code-Compliant Repairs

All repairs are performed to current NEC standards. If we find outdated wiring, missing GFCI protection, or other code violations during diagnosis, we'll let you know. You're never obligated to address issues beyond the original problem, but we believe you deserve to know what's in your walls.

How it works

01

Initial Assessment

We discuss the symptoms, review when the problem occurs, and inspect the affected areas and electrical panel.

02

Testing & Diagnosis

Using calibrated meters and circuit tracers, we measure voltage, test continuity, check connections, and isolate the fault.

03

Explanation & Estimate

We explain what we found in plain language and provide a firm price for the repair before starting work.

04

Repair & Verification

We complete the repair to code, test the circuit under load, and verify the problem is fully resolved.

Common questions

How much does electrical troubleshooting cost?+

We charge a diagnostic fee for the service call and testing time. If you proceed with the repair, that fee is applied to the total cost. We provide a firm repair price before starting any work.

Can you troubleshoot problems in older homes?+

Yes. We work with knob-and-tube, aluminum wiring, and older panel types regularly. Older systems have their quirks, but the diagnostic process is the same—find the fault, explain the options, and make it safe.

What if the problem is intermittent?+

Intermittent issues are harder to catch but not impossible. We test under load, check for loose connections that only fail when warm, and sometimes install monitoring equipment. If we can't replicate the problem during the visit, we'll advise on next steps.
