100-150-200 amps Meter Box & Outside Disconnect Replacement

Professional replacement of meter boxes and outside disconnect switches for 100, 150, or 200 amp services. Code-compliant installations coordinated with your utility company.

Meter Box & Outside Disconnect Replacement

Your meter box and outside disconnect are critical components of your electrical service. When they fail, show corrosion, or don't meet current code requirements, replacement isn't optional—it's necessary for safety and legal operation.

Brighton Electric handles complete meter box and outside disconnect replacements for residential and commercial properties throughout New Jersey. We work directly with your utility company to schedule the disconnect and reconnection, pull all required permits, and ensure every detail meets NEC and local code.

Why Meter Boxes and Disconnects Need Replacement

Older meter boxes corrode from weather exposure. Connections loosen. Breakers in outdoor disconnects fail. Some older installations lack the outside disconnect now required by code in many NJ municipalities.

Common reasons for replacement:

  • Corrosion or rust compromising the enclosure or bus bars
  • Loose or burned connections at the meter socket
  • Failed or outdated disconnect breaker
  • Upgrade to higher amperage service (100A to 200A)
  • Code compliance when selling a home or after inspection failure
  • Utility company requirement after meter removal or service work

We size the replacement to match your service—100, 150, or 200 amps—and coordinate the entire process so you're never without power longer than necessary.

Our Replacement Process

1. Site Assessment
We inspect your existing meter box, disconnect, service entrance cable, and grounding to determine what needs replacement and whether any additional upgrades are required.

2. Permit and Utility Coordination
We pull the electrical permit and schedule the utility disconnect. In New Jersey, the utility must remove the meter before we can work, and they reconnect it after inspection.

3. Installation
We remove the old equipment, install the new meter box and disconnect, make all connections to code, and verify grounding and bonding. All work is done with the service de-energized.

4. Inspection and Reconnection
The local electrical inspector signs off, and we coordinate with the utility to reinstall the meter and restore power.

What We Install

We use weatherproof, UL-listed meter boxes and disconnect enclosures rated for New Jersey's climate. All components are sized to your service amperage and installed to meet or exceed NEC Article 230 requirements.

Every installation includes proper grounding, bonding, and weatherhead or service entrance cable connections. If your service entrance cable is damaged or undersized, we'll let you know—it often makes sense to replace it at the same time.
